The Making
Wrapped, knotted, and finished by hand.
Nothing here is machine-assembled. Every stage is done by hand, in sequence, over several sessions of work.
Wrapping the frame
A rounded frame is wrapped in fabric or ribbon by hand, giving the base a soft, finished edge before any thread is added.
Knotting the weave
Thread is knotted row by row from the outer ring inward, building the concentric pattern that gives each piece its structure. This stage takes the longest and cannot be rushed.
Fibre and colour
Thread colours are chosen to suit the feathers being set into the piece, so the weave and the plumage sit together rather than compete.
Feather placement
Documented falconry feathers are placed individually and fixed by hand into the frame and fringe, positioned to hang naturally.
Finishing
Ribbon and fringe are trimmed and secured, the piece is checked for balance when hung, and it is then photographed and recorded before joining the collection.
